What is the Gospel?

Derived from the Greek word euaggelion, the word Gospel simply means good news. It is mentioned 89 times in the Greek New Testament of the Bible. So, what is this good news all about? It is about the proclamation of the forgiveness of sins and adoption to become the children of God. It means we can have a reconciliation and peace with God. And toping it all off, it is free. It is a gift from God.

God is Our Salvation

The Bible teaches that we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We have told a little lie, haven't we? What about hating someone or lusting after someone or taking God's name in vain? No matter how hard we try to be good, we still fail time and time again. The consequence of sin is death, not only physical but also spiritual death that eternally seperates us from God. That is a scary thing.

Here is the good news: God did not leave us alone condemmed in our sins. He loved us and provided a way so we can live and be reconciled with Him. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world, who lived a perfect life to die as a ransom for us all. The bible mentions, He, Jesus, who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. He took our punishment so we don't have to. He died so we live. That is the Gospel.

An Invitation to You

Here are questions worth pondering: What if you die tonight? What will happen to you? Where will you go? You don't want to spend eternity on the wrong side.

What must one do to be saved? God has already done all the work. All you need to do is to receive. It is a gift of God. Believe in the Gospel. Believe that Jesus died on the cross as a payment for your sins and that you can trust Him alone for your salvation.

The Bible says, for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Make a decision today: come to Jesus. Today is the day of Salvation.
